Tourmaline Paraiba

Paraiba Tourmaline was recently discovered by a tireless digger, Heitor Dimas Barbosa who, in 1988, was carrying out excavations in the state of Paraiba, Brazil. Only in 2000 new mines were discovered in Africa, within the states of Mozambique and Nigeria.

Why you should invest in Paraiba Tourmaline

No stone in the world comes near to the tones of the Paraiba, determined by the particular presence of Copper and Manganese in its chemical composition. It has a vivid glow, a deep colour saturation, magical shades ranging from bright turquoise (the most characteristic) to blue-green. All these features seem to have an element of union: they arouse in the observer the same emotion and colours of the Caribbean seas and skies. This is the secret of its success.

The secret of the colour

No stone in the world can approach the colour tones of Paraiba, determined by the particular presence of Copper and Manganese in its chemical composition. A vivid glow, deep colour saturation, magical shades ranging from bright turquoise (the most characteristic) to blue-green. All these characteristics seem to have an element of union: they arouse in the observer the same emotion and colours of the Caribbean seas and skies. This is the secret of its success.

African and Brazilian Paraiba

There are those who argue that the “real” Paraiba only comes from Brazil only but this statement has no scientific basis to support it, and seems to be a melancholy comment made from a Brazilian mine that is now in exhaustion. In fact, the prestigious Gem Industry and Laboratory Conference (GILC) has declared that the chemical composition of the African Paraiba is identical to that of Brazil. International gemmological laboratories are not able to distinguish their origin nor are they able to notice qualitative differences.

Consequently, all Tourmalines that possess the specific % composition of Copper and Manganese characteristic in Paraibe Tourmalines, can be declared as such, without any discrimination as to their origin. In fact, it seems that the Brazilian and African deposits were united during the Palaeozoic, in the famous Pangaea and that even today nature wants to reveal this truth by enclosing it in these mysterious gems.
